Beware of Falling Boys

IMG_5887Boy has really stepped up his game. Child-proofing is not about covering sockets, putting rubber bumpers on tables or a lock on the toilet (YET). In this house, our problem is climbing. He’s on everything. Up and over, up and down, up and up, whatever he can shimmy his little tummy up enough to get a hand-hold onto, he’s pulling off human feats of strength to climb up on. All culminating on the scene of last week. “I turned around for just a second…” One of those ominous phrases starting most horrific parental stories.

When he came back into my view, he was standing on the kitchen table, without pants, playing with the light switch and holding a pair of scissors. What does he utter when he catches my eye? “Up!” – with all the pride he can muster.

For a split second, I thought about taking a picture, but reconsidered as getting him away from the scissors and all electrical sources would be more prudent. And getting pants on him.

  2. I’ve got two climbing punks. I wish I could tell you it gets better. The best was when Noah (age 4 at the time) jumped the fence in the backyard without my knowledge. He ended up playing in the front yard unattended for quite awhile (15 minute). Meanwhile I was in the house minding my own business because I assumed he was “contained” and playing nicely by himself in the back.

Today he tried to jump from our top floor to the main level which is oh, about 10 feet, and he would have landed on the stairs. Luckily his friend tattled on him.

And don’t get me started on his little brother…
